Integrated technology solution saves $120M+ for Canada’s universities

The Council of Ontario Universities (COU) is a membership association comprised of 20 post-secondary educational institutions that span 90 million square feet and 50,000 employees. The COU worked with JLL Technologies to organize and unify space usage, space standards definitions, and reporting.

Partnering with JLL Technologies, the Council of Ontario Universities successfully:
  • Standardized data across their 90 million square feet portfolio—including 7.7 million square feet of teaching space and 10.7 million square feet of office space
  • Delivered a single CRE platform to simplify space management and unify reporting across its higher education portfolio
  • Improved efficiency through modernizing and standardizing real estate and facilities management processes

As a result, the COU realized $120 million in cost avoidance related to space construction and another $2 million in annual operating cost savings for a single university in its portfolio.

JLL Technology's implementation created insights into accurate floorplan drawings, lease & asset information, as well as maintenance work history."
